Huu-ay-aht First Nations Branding

The Huu-ay-aht First Nation is among the first modern treaty nations in BC. In 2013, the Nation created a strategic plan that set landmark cultural and fiscal outcomes for the next 20 years.

To celebrate a new way forward, the Nation engaged Myron to create a new logo, tagline and visual language. By recreating the existing logo, Myron maintained an important cultural connection to the ‘whale’ figure while creating an icon with greater visual impact. New colours were chosen to reflect the Huu-ay-aht people’s strength and connection with nature.

The tagline is a reflection of the People’s significance in coastal BC history and their modern aspirations. To create the tagline, Myron considered the Nation’s guiding principles of ʔiisaak (greater respect), ʔuuʔałuk (taking care of) and Hišuk ma c̕awak (everything is one). “Ancient spirit, modern mind” encapsulates the Huu-ay-aht people’s past and present to diverse audiences including neighbouring coastal First Nations, international business partners and other governments.
